World Heritage Sites

With its rich cultural and natural heritage, Albania is home to five UNESCO World Heritage Sites within its 28,000 km² area:

  1.  The ancient city of Butrint.
  2.  The historic center of Gjirokastër.
  3.  The historic center of Berat.
  4. The Gashi River and Rrajcë regions, which are part of the Ancient and Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe.
  5. The Natural and Cultural Heritage of the Ohrid Region, which has been a World Heritage Site in North Macedonia since 1979 and was later expanded to include the Albanian portion of the coast.
