The municipality of Korça sits on a plateau approximately 850 meters above sea level, surrounded by the Morava Mountains.

The area around the Old Bazaar, including the Mirahori Mosque, is considered the urban heart of the city.

Founded by the Ottoman Albanian nobleman Ilias Bey Mirahori, the urban development of Korça dates back to the late 15th and early 16th centuries.

However, its current appearance was largely shaped in the 19th century, a period marked by rapid growth and development.
